NJP TOP 10 QUESTIONS

Mulberry silk satin is the most commonly used fabric by Not Just Pajama (NJP). Its typical features include a smooth and glossy finish on the front, while the surface has a matte texture. The fabric feels silky, breathable, and cool to the touch. NJP’s silk fabrics are made using high-density weaving, which allows for tighter bonding between the fibers, resulting in a firmer and more drapable fabric.

NJP’s silk fabrics are woven with high density, which ensures tighter bonding between the fibers, giving the fabric a firmer structure and good drape. Combined with the brand’s proprietary finishing techniques, the fabric is smoother and more lustrous. We also strictly control the proportion of softeners used, limiting shrinkage to around 3%, ensuring that the fabric remains durable and retains its shape. NJP recommends following our silk care instructions carefully to extend the life of your silk garments.

It’s common to notice dark-colored silk fabrics appearing faded or whitish after washing. This phenomenon is known as 'silk greying'. The reason for this is that during the washing process, silk absorbs water, causing the silk fibers to bend. This bending changes the reflection on the fabric’s surface from mirror-like reflection to diffuse reflection, which naturally dulls the shine.

If the fabric is soaked for too long, the fibers can weaken and loosen, leading to the loss of sericin (the natural silk glue), which may result in fiber breakage. This breakage causes very fine, fuzzy fibers to rise to the surface, creating a grey, fuzzy appearance. This phenomenon is similar to a process called sand washing, which is also used for silk fabrics.Since these tiny fibers are too small to be seen individually, the surface looks uniformly grey or fuzzy, especially noticeable under backlight, while it is less visible or even unnoticeable in direct light. This effect is more pronounced in darker fabrics because of the higher contrast.Silk greying is irreversible, so special care should be taken when washing. Always use silk detergent, avoid soaking, do not rub or wring the fabric, and gently wash by hand. Let the fabric air dry in the shade.

It’s normal for silk to appear less shiny and glossy after washing, and this is related to the inherent characteristics of silk. When silk absorbs water during washing, the silk fibers bend, causing the surface to change from mirror-like reflection to diffuse reflection, which naturally reduces its shine.

Additionally, friction during washing can cause surface fibers to break, leading to what is known as 'loose ends'.These tiny, broken fibers are so fine and numerous that they create a fuzzy, greyish appearance, making the fabric look dull (this is similar to the effect of a sand-washing process used for silk). This fuzziness is more noticeable in backlight and less visible in direct light, a phenomenon referred to as 'silk greying'.

In darker-colored fabrics, this effect is even more pronounced. Although NJP takes measures during the weaving and dyeing process to prevent greying, some degree of fading or whitening is inevitable when silk is washed.

To minimize this effect, it's important to take proper care of silk garments: use silk-specific detergent, avoid soaking and rubbing, gently press the fabric while washing, and let it air dry in the shade.

This can be explained by both the production process and the natural properties of silk:

During production, the silk undergoes processes such as dehydration and drying, and it is stored in airtight packaging to protect the fabric. This protection often reduces the moisture content in the silk.

Mulberry silk naturally has a moisture regain rate of around 11%, meaning it needs to absorb moisture from the air to remain soft and silky. Variations in how much moisture the fabric absorbs over time, due to differences in production batches, can lead to slightly different textures when you first touch the fabric.

If you leave the silk garment in a cool, well-ventilated area for a while, it will naturally regain its softness due to its moisture-absorbing properties. Additionally, increasing humidity in your home environment can help the silk become even softer and more comfortable to the touch.

The stiffness of black-printed silk pajamas is mainly due to the dark base color of the fabric. Dark-colored silk, especially black, is more challenging to dye. In digital printing, the amount of ink used for black backgrounds is four times that of lighter colors. During the fabric treatment process, the material requires additional drying, which makes it slightly stiffer and thicker compared to lighter-colored fabrics.

Silk naturally has a moisture regain rate of about 11%, and over time, it will absorb moisture from the air and soften. To speed up the softening process, you can wash the garment with a small amount of fabric softener like Comfort, and it will gradually become softer.

Silk fabrics, especially satin, are prone to developing fuzz or small fibers due to the delicate nature of silk fibers. When exposed to significant friction, either from wearing or washing, the sericin (silk glue) in the fibers can break, leading to occurrences such as "fiber splitting," "fuzzing," or "pilling." These effects are irreversible and cannot be fixed on silk fabrics.

For example, areas that experience more friction, such as where a man's beard touches a pillowcase or where bed linens come into contact with feet, are more likely to develop fuzz over time. This is a natural characteristic of silk fabric and is a result of its fragile nature when subjected to repeated abrasion.

"Avoid High Temperatures: Silk is sensitive to heat, so please do not soak the fabric. The water temperature should not exceed 30°C. Do not tumble dry and avoid direct sunlight.

Use Neutral Detergents: Silk is sensitive to alkaline substances. Use a neutral detergent or a specialized silk detergent. Dissolve the detergent in water before adding your silk item, and never pour detergent directly onto the fabric.

Minimize Friction: Please wash items individually and gently hand wash. Silk doesn’t trap dirt easily, so lift the fabric up and down rather than rubbing it. Avoid vigorous scrubbing. After washing, do not wring out forcefully; instead, press the water out gently or use a large towel to absorb excess moisture before hanging or laying flat to dry in the shade. Store silk items in a dry place and avoid heavy pressure.

Separate Washing for Light Colors: Light-colored silk products can easily transfer color, so be sure to wash items individually and dry them separately. Avoid washing light and dark items together, and do not hang them in direct sunlight with colored garments to prevent color transfer, which may cause irreversible damage.

Initial Color Floating in Dark Colors: For dark-colored silk products, it's normal to see some color bleeding during the first few washes. Please wash them separately. After 2-3 normal washes, this issue should not occur"

"Embroidery customization is available. For sleepwear, the embroidery can be placed on the cuffs or the back of the collar. The content can consist of approximately 5 English letters, with a maximum of 8 characters (spaces count as a character).

For pillowcases, you can choose your own embroidery content, limited to around 15 English letters, with a maximum of 18 characters (spaces also count).

The embroidery process takes 5 business days after we receive the detailed content. NJP offers both personal and corporate customization services.
